Our Story
Whirlwind is a family-owned, family-run tree, shrub and plant nursery.
Located in Grafton, Ohio and owned by Dave, Lori and Ariel Pund, our goal is to be able to supply every type of plant you may need for your landscape but at prices that everyone can afford. 2023 was the first year we began selling to the public, and 2024 has been a big year for growth in both diversity and quantity. Multiple greenhouses are plotted to be installed every year, and we have 21 acres of land to continue to expand on. We are always striving to add more diversity to our inventory so you can find exactly what you’re looking for to enhance your landscape.
We are currently home to a large variety of trees including Norway Spruces, Colorado Blue Spruces, River Birch, Black Hills Spruces, Emerald Green and Green Giant Arborvitae, White Pines, a variety of Redbuds and Junipers, red maples, poplar, fruit trees, Japanese Maples, crabapples, lilacs and other ornamental trees. Our trees range from 1-2 year old seedlings measuring 12 inches, to 7-foot Green Giants ready to change your landscape today. Whatever your budget, we have something that will work for you. For your flower beds: we stock juniper shrubs, daylilies, Hosta, mops, yews, azaleas, hibiscus, hydrangeas, arborvitae shrubs, boxwoods, lilacs, spirea, weigela and a variety of perennial flowers just to name a few. With mums in the fall and annuals in the spring, it won't be long before you can find everything you need for your landscape project with us.
To our local landscape installers, come to us for all your plant needs. With Dave's background in owning both a landscaping company and landscape supply business in the past, we know what you need to satisfy your landscape install customers. We will provide plants that are healthier and less costly than your big box stores, distributors, and garden centers so that you can give your customers a beautiful landscape at a fraction of the cost.

David Pund
Owner of both Whirlwind Trees and Shrubs and Whirlwind Trailers and the patriarch of the Pund family. In his younger years and before the repair shop next to Whirlwind Trees and Shrubs, Dave owned both a landscaping business as well as a landscape supply business that were very successful. Many years of experience working with Ohio landscapes gives Dave the knowledge and experience to help you determine what will work in your landscape and how to care for it.

Ariel Pund
Owner and youngest of the Pund family. Ariel graduated with two degrees from Hiram College in Biology and Environmental Studies. Ariel is no stranger to research - reading constantly to stay up to date on all the plants used frequently in Ohio and the things that may plague them, or signs that they may need more nutrients, water or sun. A firm believer that the plants will tell you what they need, she’s happy to discuss what the plants are saying and which ones are going to thrive in your landscape. If you have a certain style or a goal image for your landscape, she’s happy to discuss which plants can help you achieve that vision.

Lori Pund
Lori is the matriarch of the Pund family. While she’s still learning about all the plants, trees, and shrubs Whirlwind has to offer, she really excels at fitting all your purchases into your car. Whether you have a large SUV and are taking home a couple of flowers, or you have a tiny sedan and you’re taking home a 20 gal. tree… she’s got you covered. Partial to anything that is purple, she’s happy to point you to the “pretty room” where we keep our vibrant annuals.

Luna
Luna is our supervisor here at Whirlwind. Her skills include bringing squeaky gifts into the greenhouse and going for rides on the shopping wagons. Some days she is friendlier than others, but she is always close by whether you see her or not.

Alfie
Alfie is the youngest and newest member of the Whirlwind family. While he will undoubtedly make his presence known with his deep bark, he is a lovebug at heart. If you get the chance to meet him, he will likely give you both a hug and a kiss.
